Janice Jeannine (Conaway) Pfeiffer, lovingly known as Jan, 75, of Hobbs, New Mexico, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
Jan was born on August 2, 1950, in Hobbs, New Mexico, to Joe Bob and Bobbie Lou Conaway. She grew up in Hobbs and graduated from Hobbs High School in 1968. Driven by a passion for caring for others, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Dental Hygiene in 1972 and later returned to school to become a Registered Nurse in 1992.
On December 28, 1974, Jan married Van Duncan Pfeiffer, and together they shared 16 years of love, devotion, and family until his passing in December of 1990.
A talented and determined professional, Jan’s leadership and dedication were recognized when she was honored twice as one of New Mexico’s Top 25 Businesswomen of the Year during the 1990s.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Jan was most proud of her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the loving mother of Kelly Van Pfeiffer (Melissa Sandoval) and Christopher Blake Pfeiffer, and the adoring Gamma of Ashton Pfeiffer, Cason Pfeiffer, Jaxon Pfeiffer, and Chloe Pfeiffer, along with her bonus grandchildren, Keaton Ingram and Kylie Ingram. She also cherished her niece Heather Brown, great-niece Allison McGlothlin, great-niece and great-nephew, Brooklyn Carver, and Kash Carver, who were like grandchildren to her, and was blessed with a great-grandson, Amias Pfeiffer.
Jan found joy in the simple but meaningful parts of life. She loved gardening, reading, cooking, and keeping up with all her grandchildren. One of her greatest joys came from helping others, especially the elderly, where her compassion and kindness touched many lives. Her greatest happiness came from time spent with family, and she will always be remembered for the love, warmth, and strength she shared with them.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, bonus grandchildren, great-grandson, and her sister, Marsha McIlwain, along with extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Van Duncan Pfeiffer; her parents, Joe Bob and Bobbie Lou Conaway; and her brother, Donnie Conaway.
A funeral service to honor Jan’s life will be held on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 2:00 PM at First Methodist Church in Hobbs, New Mexico. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Jan’s life and legacy.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all whose lives she touched.
