With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the life of our beloved sister and aunt, Janice Marie McHellon, who transitioned from this life and entered eternal rest with her Savior on 30 January 2026 at the age of 71.

Janice was born on November 23, 1954, in Henry County, Alabama to the late Freddie "Fred" McHellon and Elease (Mathis) McHellon. She was educated at Headland High School and continued her education at George C. Wallace Community College, with an Associates in Business Administration. She was an avid reader who loved enjoyed spending time with

As one of the trailblazers who opened the door of opportunity in 1976, one of the first African American employees at the Henry County Courthouse, Abbeville, Alabama. She served faithfully in several positions during her 25 years of exemplary service. Her first assignment was County Revenue Office as a Tax Assessor and Revenue Assistant. Then, 1980 she was selected as the first African American County Mapping and Appraisal Clerk, Janice retired with nearly three decades of devoted service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Freddie and Elease McHellon, her beloved siblings: sister, Irene (McHellon) Rackston, brother, James Robert "Jamie" McHellon, and sister, Willie Dean (McHellon) Judson.

Janice leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and service cherished by her siblings, Wyleen (McHellon) Wood, Tommie McHellon, and Dealer (Tony Best) Underwood.

"'I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith; I received her crown of righteousness".
