Janice Ruth Lennon Porter, 78, of Bladenboro went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, while at Cape Fear Valley/Bladen County Hospital. She was born and raised in Bladen County on February 21, 1945, to the late James Elmer Lennon and Dora Johnson Lennon. 

 

Janice was a Christian sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was all about spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed having her family together, singing or enjoying a meal together. She loved fellowshipping and eating out with her fellow classmates. Janice was a lifelong member of the Northside Baptist Church where she worked in the church for over 35 years and sang in the choir. Anytime the church was open, she was present until her health declined. She enjoyed sharing the gospel with others and spending time in prayer. Janice was a southern lady who always dressed in her finest and carried a charming demeanor. She believed in keeping her home clean, her family loved and well fed. Janice enjoyed taking trips to the mountains, shopping and doing word searches. She will forever be remembered for the deep love she shared for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, her family and her dear friends. 

 

Janice was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Ray Porter, grandson Chay Joshua Porter, and siblings, Jesse Turner, Nancy Sue Sykes, and James “Buddy: Lennon Jr. She leaves behind her sons, Burman Ray Porter Jr. (Robin) of Bladenboro, Jody Porter (Brenda) of St. Paul, daughter Renee P. Bryan (Gary) of Bladenboro, one brother, Herbert Lennon (Frances) of Dublin, two sisters, Doretta Melvin (Donald) of White Lake and Marilyn Dent (Edward) of Bladenboro, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. 

 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Northside Baptist Church in Bladenboro. A funeral service is planned for Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Northside Baptist Church with the Reverend Russell Benson and Floyd McKnight officiating. A burial will follow the services in the Porter Family Cemetery in Bladenboro with Rev. Ricky Donaldson. 

 

 At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of Burman and Robin Porter, 75 Lewis Cemetery Rd, Bladenboro, NC 28320.

 

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to her Caregiver, Denise Naugle, for the genuine care and compassion administered to Janice during her illness.
