Janice Ann Rupe Rakes, age 78, of Shawsville passed away peacefully in her home on July 2, 2024 surrounded by her family. She was born in Radford on February 23, 1946. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry and Helen Rupe, brother Henry "June" Rupe, sister Diane Murdock, and daughter Kim "Kimmie" Rakes. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, George W. "Bill" Rakes; sister Beatrice Linkous and brother Donald "Tony" Rupe; children Lisa Shepherd; Billy Rakes and Hope; Shawn Rakes and Kim; grandchildren Amber Perdue (Daniel), Josh Rakes (Chelsea), Megan Hopkins, and William Rakes; and great-grandchildren Paisley and Piper Perdue, Steven and Macy Rakes, John, Theo and Caroline Hopkins.
Janice was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and she had a special place in her heart for children. She was always kind and would go out of her way to help anyone she could. She loved her family and gave everyone treasures she found just for them while thrifting. She enjoyed finding beauty in nature especially with her flowers and her yard decorations. Janice carried her sense of humor until the end. She was quick to make you laugh, even without trying. She loved family celebrations, so there is no doubt that she is now celebrating in heaven walking the streets of gold!
Funeral Services will be conducted on Friday July 5, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Friday July 5, 2024 at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, S.W. Blacksburg, VA. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Open Door Baptist Church PO Box 2524 Christiansburg, VA 24068.
