Janice M. (Light) Schafebook, 85, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply. Born on August 8, 1939, in Lebanon, PA, she was the daughter of the late Oscar and Dorothy (Maulfair) Light. She was the beloved wife of the late Bruce D. Schafebook.
A graduate of Cornwall High School, Janice had a lifelong calling to care for others. She earned her nursing degree from the Reading Hospital School of Nursing and went on to serve as a registered nurse at St. Luke's Hospital for 24 years. Her quiet strength, compassion, and gentle care brought comfort to countless patients throughout her career.
Even after retiring from nursing, Janice remained devoted to helping others. She was an avid hospital volunteer, offering her time and kindness to those in need.
She was an active member of the Notre Dame Catholic Church 55 and Older Club and the Wesley Methodist Church prayer shawl group. In her free time, she found joy in playing the piano, getting lost in a good book, and spending peaceful days in Cape May-a place she held close to her heart.
Janice's greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her children, David B. Schafebook of Allentown, Jill M. Schafebook of Saylorsburg, and Beth A. McGlynn and her husband, James, of Lititz; her grandchildren, Jessica, Ryan, and Patrick; and her great-grandson, Henry. She also leaves behind her sister, Joanne Bernard. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Lorraine M. Light and Barbara Hafey.
Janice will be remembered for her loving heart, gentle presence, and unwavering devotion to her family and those she cared for throughout her life.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family. Janice's arrangements have been entrusted to the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home, Bethlehem. A memory tribute may be placed at www.cantelmifuneralhome.com.
