Janice Stinson Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Jan A. Stinson, age 75, passed away on November 22, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, leadership, and a life fully lived. She is survived by her devoted husband, John Fitzgibbon, with whom she shared countless adventures, travel, laughter, and a deeply rooted friendship that defined their life together.
Jan was a truly unique soul-the perfect friend, the perfect boss, the perfect aunt, and the perfect wife. She had a rare gift for making everyone around her feel welcomed, valued, and understood. Her smile, full of warmth and sincerity, was often the first thing people remembered and the last thing they forgot.
Her federal career began in the 1980s at the Veterans Affairs Regional Office, where she served as an examiner. Driven, dedicated, and always striving for more, she eventually accepted the role that would define the rest of her professional life: Executive Director of the Chicago Federal Executive Board. In that role, Jan became the essential point of contact in times of crisis-whether building emergencies, severe weather, or man-made events. She led with calm confidence, putting federal employees first and maintaining strong, trusting relationships with agency leaders throughout Chicago.
Even after her retirement, Jan continued to nurture the friendships she built over decades of service, staying connected to the colleagues who had become like family to her.
Outside of work, Jan embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. She loved to golf, treasured traveling with John and friends, and proudly called herself a "deadhead," forever a fan of Jimmy Buffett and the carefree spirit of his music. She was also deeply committed to giving back, participating every year in the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk, where she raised thousands of dollars for research and support.
Those who knew Jan have echoed the same sentiment again and again: she was extraordinary, and her impact on their lives will never be forgotten. Her presence-steady, compassionate, and full of light-made the world around her better.
Jan lived with purpose, loved deeply, and leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
