Janice S. Watson Cullum was born in Dallas, TX on November 22, 1929 to parents Herbert Cornelius Watson and Birdie Beatrice Sachse. She had three older sisters Evelyn Dulaney, Imogene (Gene) Evans, and Mae Ella Spiva. She married her husband George Cullum Jr., February 7, 1950. They had three children, George L. Cullum III, Jean Cullum Blum, and Troy Gene Cullum; six grandchildren Kristen Cullum, Craig Blum, Julie Metzger, Clinton Cullum, TJ Cullum, and Morgan Cullum; and three great-grandchildren Lucy Metzger, Owen Metzger, and Wyatt Metzger. She is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
She and her family lived in various parts of North Texas and Missouri, where she was always an active member of her church and enjoyed participating in her ladies' bible studies. She loved serving and loving others and later in life volunteered at Christian Care in Mesquite. Janice loved being fashionable and never left home without wearing the perfect accessories. She especially enjoyed wearing turquoise, and she made sure to have her hair done every week. Living a healthy lifestyle was very important to Janice. She frequently exercised, strived to eat healthy, and never forgot to take her vitamins. She was very proud of her Weight Watcher's lifetime membership. Although she mostly ate healthy she still loved to indulge in hot dogs, popcorn, and creme brulee.
At home she enjoyed watching TV and doing laundry. She was a proud laundry expert, a real life Tide Mom. She was also a fantastic Dr. Mom, always being willing to care for her grandkids and take them to doctor's appointments when they were sick. Outside the home she loved to drive until a few years ago. She considered speed limits to be just mild suggestions. It was always thrilling to be driven around by her. Her grandkids said she drove like Cruella DeVille in 101 Dalmatians. She also loved reading the newspaper and sharing articles from it with her family and friends.
Later in life she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would read them stories from the Bible, sing songs to them, and watch TV with them. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren to church, the zoo, museums, and amusement parks. She always made sure to go to their various extracurricular events and performances. In the last five years she became an expert at word searches and guessing the manufacturer's suggested retail prices on the Price is Right.
Janice passed away peacefully at home on June 19. She was beloved by all who knew her and is deeply missed. The Graveside burial service will be Saturday, June 29, 10:00 AM at Sachse Cemetery, 6314 Sachse Road, Sachse, TX 75048. There will be a Celebration of Life service on November 23, 11:00 AM at T Boone Pickens Faith Presbyterian Hospice chapel. The celebration of life service will be the day after what would have been her 95th birthday.
We want to express our gratitude for the wonderful care our Mama Jan received from Faith Presbyterian Hospice especially her nurse Nali and aide Dana. In her memory donations can be made to
