Janie Hedgecock Obituary

Janie Lee Holdren Hedgecock

Oct 3, 1935 - Nov 24, 2025

Janie Lee Holdren Hedgecock, age 90, left this world on Monday, November 24, 2025, for a much better and more deserving place. A petite woman with a large heart, others were always first. She would give anything she had to help someone in need, even if it meant doing without herself - a much-needed attribute in these times. She used her sewing/creative skills to make items for homeless children through her church, Friedberg Moravian. Outside of this, her crafts were a regular part of local consignment businesses. Her other passions were shagging and surf fishing with her late husband at Carolina Beach and on occasion taking weekend trips to the casino in Cherokee, NC, where she would play the slot machines for hours. She retired from Sara Lee after 35 years as a Sales Coordinator covering NC, TN, KY, VA, and Bermuda. During her tenure, she was involved with Big Partners/Little Partners, a company-based program designed to partner employees with students at Walkertown Elementary and help show them the benefits of school, provide tutorial assistance, or just be a friend. In 1996, she was selected to carry the Hanes Olympic Torch on the final leg of the route prior to the start of the Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA. She also devoted ten years as a volunteer for the Crosby National Celebrity Golf Tournament, a Sara Lee sponsored yearly event, held at Bermuda Run that raised more than $18 million for causes in the Triad and around the country. Janie was born in 1935 to the late Mary Hodges in Blue Ridge, Virginia. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, James Hedgecock; brother, Danny Holdren; and sister, Betty Holdren Chocolate. She is survived by her son, Norman Williams of Winston-Salem; two half-brothers, Larry, and John Campanelli; stepson, Dwayne Hedgecock; stepdaughter, Lisa Hedgecock; two step-grandchildren, Landon, and Montgomery Hedgecock; and three cousins.

To honor her request to be laid to rest with her late husband, the graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m., Friday, November 28, 2025, at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org/donate. The donations can be made as a one-time gift or monthly. Online condolences may be made to hayworth-miller.com.
