Dorothy Jane Rush of Amarillo died February 8, 2016.
Memorial services will be at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11, 2016, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Amarillo with Rev. Dr. Clay J. Brown officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.
Janie was born on May 31, 1923 in Caldwell, Texas. She moved to Amarillo in 1927 and ultimately graduated from Amarillo High School. She attended Amarillo College for a year and then attended Baylor University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in 1945.
In 1945, Janie married James Avery Rush, Jr. of Amarillo, and they had four children - Dorothy Jo, James Avery III, Nancy Chandler, and Carol Jane.
After her marriage to Avery, Janie supported her husband while he attended law school at the University of Texas. After Avery's graduation from law school, they lived in Houston while Avery worked as an attorney at Baker Botts, and then Janie and Avery moved around the country while Avery served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and Air Force.
Janie returned to Amarillo with her family in 1953. While living in Amarillo, Janie was involved in a variety of philanthropic pursuits and was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Junior League, PEO, and a devoted and long-standing Bible study that included her dearest friends. Janie's joy and life's work was her family, including her four children, twelve grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom loved her dearly. Janie was a gifted artist, best-known for her beautiful, water-color paintings, but also enjoyed oil-painting, glass-painting, and copper enamel.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Avery, and her daughters, Nancy Chandler Rush, and Jo Rush Mozola.
Survivors include her brother, John Jenkins; her son, Dr. James Avery Rush, III; her daughter, Carol Rush Stewart; her grandchildren - Erin Mozola Bunkley, Dr. Jave Rush, Dr. Ryan Rush, Jamie Mozola Shouse, Dr. Sloan Rush, Hayden Rush Huff, James David White, Stephen Stewart, John White, Jenkins White, Christopher Stewart, Travis Stewart; and her great-grandchildren - Thomas Allen Bunkley IV, Emmie Caroline Rush, Avery Jane Shouse, True Solomon Rush, Claire Chandler Shouse, Mabry Madeline Rush, and Ashley Bradford Rush.
