Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lassiter Family as you celebrate the homegoing for wonderful Jazz. She's always held a place of reverance in my mind and heart for so many of the wonderful childhood memories she gave us kids on Media Street. Just last week, before I had learned of her passing, I had shared one of the many memories I had with Jazz. She was such a confidence booster for me as a young teenage girl. One hot summer day, Media Street was loaded with kids so she organized a $50 winner take all double-dutch contest that I wouldn't take part in because I was afraid to lose to other girls. She looked at me and said in her Jazzy voice, "you will only lose if you don't try." Actually she yelled it at me, but her yell was a love-yell, especially for me.
I was scared but I joined the contest and I won $50 dollars!! I have never forgotten that day and how proud I felt and just how proud Jazz was. I visited Jazz many years later and I reminded her of the story and darn if she didn't remember it too! Only she said she hadn't thought anyone would win and she could keep her $50 bucks, but She was glad I won. As an adult I've been a leader and mentor, and I've pridefully used this life-event when helping others in the same way as she helped me.
With love for you Jazz always. Rest in peace.
