I first met Jason, in MJ Garage in Storrington as we both had Beetles, his famous red Baja Bug being a great talking point. From there we met up and in the end set up our own Beetle club, `Beetles of West Sussex´ or BOWS, his dad Colin printed off some stickers so we could give them to new members. It was an informal group rather than a club, but we did some drives out and trips to car shows. We had quite a few memorable evenings at his parents house and the local pubs in West Chiltington, Colin and Maureen always making my family and me very welcome. It was always very interesting to find out which new VW part he had bought, to build the ultimate engine, which changed constantly as he discovered even more ways to make a Beetle go faster, especially after his trips to California! I think if you had cut Jason in half you would of found a big VW running right through him!

We both ended up in the car industry designing body panels for cars, overlapping workwise at IAD and Daewoo in Worthing, and in 1998 we both moved away from West Sussex, myself to the Midlands and Jason to the USA for work. I think he took it as a personal mission to try and educate his American counterparts in the ways of British culture especially food wise, and was very much a Brit abroad, although he also loved the American culture, especially the car and the cosmopolitan food culture. Back in 1992 Jason was the best man at my first wedding in Spain, and then in 2005, I was his best man at his wedding to his lovely wife April. I felt very privileged to be part of the start to their life together and was a very memorable occasion. Sadly that was the last time we physically saw each other, we kept in touch and shared in each other´s lives, and either talked on the phone or in later years via messenger etc, putting the world to rights and chatting about life in general. I am going to miss the chap immensely, as he has been a part of my life for nearly 40 years, his resilience, positivity, interest and humour always lightened up your day right to the end. Love to April, Mackenzie, Calleigh & Maureen.

I still have my matching shirt from the wedding!

I had the pleasure of working with Jason on different programs over the years. He was a great design engineer, always cheerful, and a fun guy to have on any team. I loved his VW Beetle stories (having had a few Beetles myself) and his quick wit. Always willing to help others. My condolences to April, Mackenzie and Calleigh

My dear roommate. I remember him calling his family every day when we were in CA. We had a great time working on the Aptera, but he missed his family dearly!
Extremely sad that you are gone.

You will be missed my friend; I will always cherish the moments we had together talking about family & car stuff. Tipping back a few cold ones at your place in the garage or deck & the tiki bar in Clearwater, FL. Your quick wittiness on a comeback line was the best! You always had a smile on your face & had the others around you smiling or laughing. It was always interesting chatting about what VW motor you had in the works. Wish we had had more time in our grey hair years. RIP my friend. My deepest sympathy to April, Mackenzie, Calleigh & your mum.

I met Jason while working within the Chrysler design studio. We often went to lunch with a gang of Brit´s, and it was always a blast. I don´t think I ever heard a negative comment come from Jason. He was always smiling. I bonded with Jason over cars, and his VW racing days. I loved his stories! I will miss chatting him up at the annual Curry party. He will be sorely missed. Rest in Peace Clarkie! May his time here on earth be a reminder for all that is bright in the world.
