Specialist Jason D. Fingar, 24, was born on November 7, 1985 and passed away on May 22, 2010 in Durai, Afghanistan. He was a member of the United States Army, and this was his first deployment. SPC Fingar enlisted in the United States Army on September 17, 2008. He received his initial training at Fort Knox, Ky. He was assigned to Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State. His brigade deployed to Afghanistan in July. SPC Fingar was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, Fifth Stryker Brigade Combat Team, Second Infantry Division. Jason had been awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Driver and Mechanic Badge during his military career. Jason had a love for music; he played many different instruments and had a desire to learn how to play the instruments he did not already know how to play. Jason was a Soldier in the Columbia Corps, he loved to read the Bible and loved the armored Stryker vehicle he rode in while on patrol in Afghanistan. He is survived by his parents, David and Rhonda Fingar; sister, Chrissey (Robert) Dodd of Naplate, IL, brothers, Jeremy Fingar of Chicago, IL and U.S. Army Sergeant Donald Fingar and his wife Kimberley of Ft. Riley, KS. Also surviving is his grandmother Peggy Dietz of Calhoun, MO, two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Gordon and Marie Fingar and Donald Dietz. Funeral Services will be Monday, May 31, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Salvation Army Columbia Corps and Worship Center, 1108 West Ash, Columbia, MO. Graveside services following at Memorial Park Cemetery, Columbia, MO. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Salvation Army Columbia Corps and Worship Center. In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army Music Scholarship Fund, In Memory of Jason Fingar, 1108 West Ash, Columbia, MO 65203.
