Jay Carter Obituary

Jay Carter
Dateline: Alton, IL
Jay A. Carter, 67, died Wednesday, January 14, 2026 in Godfrey, IL. after a lengthy battle with brain cancer. He was born December 12, 1958 in Alton, IL. Jay worked for the United States Postal Service for 30+ years, was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed 1812 reenactments. He had an uncanny sense of humor, loved dogs, Baby Ruths, repurposing old things, and could make a ridiculous sounding hoot of a Barred owl. Jay is survived by his brother James "Jamie" (Linda) Carter of Brighton, IL; brother David (Monica) Carter of Alton, IL; step-mother Janette Carter of Cottage Hills, IL; niece Jennifer (Eli) Gravert, great niece and nephew Naomi & James Gravert of St. Louis, MO and countless beloved cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy Carter and James "Sonny" Carter, and his niece Mallory Carter. Celebration of Life will be 2:00-4:00 p.m. Saturday, January 24 at the McNicholas Club Hall (1713 Stamper Ln, Godfrey, IL 62035). In lieu of flowers donations may be made of one's choice.
Gent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Additional information and online guestbook may be found at www.gentfuneralhome.com

Very sad to hear about Jay.
I worked with him for a long time and he was a very good worker. I pray that he came to Christ Jesus.
