Jay Carl Hauser, 73, of Liberal, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at his home in Liberal, KS, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on August 27, 1951, to Roy and Wanda (Froelich) Hauser in Nowata, OK.
On July 18, 1976, he married Nicki Weaver in Stillwater, OK.
Jay was very proud of his military service as an E-4 Sergeant Weapons Specialist in the US Air Force, serving in the 56th Special Operations Wing at NKP Royal Thai Air Force Base and in the 50th TFW at Hahn Air Force Base in Lautzenhausen, Germany, after graduating from White Oak High School in Vinita, OK, class of 1970. After completing his service, he went on to obtain his Diesel Mechanic Certification and his welding certification from Oklahoma State University Technical Institute. He later earned an Associate's Degree in Fire Science from Dodge City Community College and his Journeyman Electrician license. Jay had worked for Halliburton as a diesel mechanic and retired from Occidental Petroleum after 30 years as a diesel mechanic, lease operator/pumper, and well analyst.
Jay was passionate about helping others, always willing to lend a hand. With a love of military aviation, Jay volunteered at the Liberal Air Museum for years. He was also a First Aid & CPR instructor, as well as a Volunteer Firefighter. When his son Jayson was young, he enjoyed being involved as a baseball and basketball coach and a leader in his Boy Scout troop. His family and grandchildren were the light of his life. Jay attended Western Avenue Church of Christ in Liberal.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Nicki, Son, Jayson Hauser and wife Erin of Windsor, CO; Two Grandchildren, Jackson and Landon; Three Sisters, Lanece Young (husband Bob) of Collinsville, OK, Norma Toles (husband Marvin) of Penn Valley, CA, Phyllis Osten (husband Darrell) of Claremore, OK; Mother In law, Bobby Gerloff of Woodward, OK; Sister in law, Gail Fitts of Allegan, MI; and nine nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.There will be no viewing per Jay’s request.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Western Avenue Church of Christ on Thursday, August 7th, 2025, at 10:00 am. Friends and family are welcome to join at 215 S Western Ave, Liberal, KS.
An Inurnment service will be announced at a later date and will take place at the Elmwood Cemetery in Woodward, OK.
