On March 6th, 2025, Jay Hugh Hodges "Papa" passed away peacefully with his wife, Linda Hodges, by his side. Jay was known for his hard work, love for his family, and love for baseball and his favorite team, the Yankees (or anyone his kids or grandkids played for). Jay retired from Kroger after 30 years of hard work and dedication. Jay also had a strong love for his Lord being a lifelong member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
Jay is preceded in death by his mother and father, Mable and Lester Hodges, and brother and sister, Earl Hodges and Leavona Overfelt. He is survived by his wife, Linda Hodges, brother, Ricky Hodges, children, Donna Cooper (Jackie), Darren Hodges (Rosemary), stepchildren Brent Huffman (Beverly), and Sean Huffman (Laura). He is also survived by his grandchildren Corey Fitzgerald (Scarlett), India Davidson (Matt), Javin Metz (Whitney), Dalton Hodges, Abby Hodges (Nick), and step grandchild DiLaina Huffman (Bret) and by his great-grandchildren Lucas and Liam Davidson, Beau Metz, and Isabella Fitzgerald, plus several nieces and nephews.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Rita Roberts for her compassionate care to Jay during the last year. The family would also like to say thank you for his wonderful care at Heritage Hall.
Jay's life will be celebrated on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, Virginia, at 1pm for visitation with family and service to begin at 2pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your favorite charity, or if you are inclined, to a charity for Parkinson's research, in honor of Jay's battle with the disease. https://give.michaeljfox.org
