Jay L. McCreary, age 74, of Marion, passed away on Monday, November 17, 2025, at Marion General Hospital.
Jay was born on October 4, 1951, in Upper Sandusky, the son of Lloyd and Mary (Taylor) McCreary. After graduating from high school, he earned his bachelor's degree in 1973 and later completed a master's degree in education in 1982 both from The Ohio State University.
On July 20, 1996, Jay married the love of his life, Marie Rohr. Together, they shared 29 years of marriage built on devotion, partnership, and deep affection.
Jay dedicated his professional life to education, shaping the minds and futures of countless students throughout his many years at Marion Technical College. His expertise, leadership, and commitment to learning led him to retire as the Director of Workforce Development and Dean of Engineering-roles in which he impacted many and built a lasting legacy.
A lifelong learner, Jay had an unending curiosity and a remarkable memory for facts and interesting tidbits. He enjoyed working on tractors and changing oil with his son, Ian, and found joy in snow skiing, water skiing, and boating. A man of many talents, he earned a black belt in karate and even taught classes. Jay's love for music led him to play in the band Moving Violation, and he also shared his musical gifts by playing the church organ and keyboard.
Above all, Jay cherished his family. He was a proud and devoted father whose heart swelled with pride for his grandchildren. He rarely missed a sporting event, concert, or school activity-always their biggest supporter and most enthusiastic fan. Jay treasured the many days he spent with his family at Indian Lake-boating across the water, sharing laughter, and enjoying the peaceful moments together at their RV.
Jay is survived by his devoted wife, Marie McCreary; his children, Ian (Jennifer) McCreary and Holly (Dr. Brian) Seaman; his beloved grandchildren, Greyson Seaman, Liam McCreary, Emery Seaman, Beckett Seaman, and Ethan McCreary; his brother, Gary (Ruth) McCreary and his first wife Robyn Keck McCreary, mother of Ian and Holly.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at Snyder Funeral Homes, Denzer Chapel, 360 East Center St., Marion, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, 251 North Main St., Marion, at 10:30 a.m., with Fr. Edward Shikina officiating. Burial will be held privately for the family.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Open Door Resource Center of Wyandot County, Wyandot County Community Foundation or to the charity of one's choice.
