Jayce Zy’kell Holmes, beloved son of James and Dr. Artoryia Holmes,
was born on September 1, 2018, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He
entered eternal rest on November 30, 2025.
Jayce was a fighter from the very beginning. At birth, he faced
serious kidney complications. Through every challenge, he showed
strength far beyond his years. As his condition progressed from
Stage 2 Chronic Kidney Disease to end stage kidney failure, Jayce
began dialysis at just four years old. Even during the hardest
moments, he kept a bright smile and a joyful spirit. His happiness
could light up a room. He especially loved watching his favorite
movie, The Bee Movie.
Affectionately known as Jayce Man, he worked hard at his therapy
appointments and never backed down from a challenge. His
courage, joy, and determination touched everyone who knew him.
Jayce was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. Billy H.
Newton, Larry D. Sanders, Anne-Marie Holmes, and Michael Holmes.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving parents, James and Dr.
Artoryia Holmes; two brothers, Sire Holmes and Zavien Holmes;
four sisters, Zaya Holmes, Jayla Holmes, Alaya Holmes, and Aleiya
Holmes, all siblings of the home; grandmothers, Lady Clara Newton
and Olivia Sanders of Smithfield, North Carolina; four uncles,
Christian Maas (Manu) of Germany, Mitchell Holmes Jr. (Karen) of
Raleigh, North Carolina, Dwayne Sanders, and Kenneth Howell
(Michelle) of Smithfield, North Carolina; three aunts, Tesa Sanders
Lackey (Jeffery) of Smithfield, North Carolina, LaQuada Sanders of
Raleigh, North Carolina, and Pamela Nicholson of Smithfield, North
Carolina; along with a host of cousins, great aunts, great uncles,
other relatives, and friends.
Jayce will be remembered for his strength, his smile, and the love he
brought into this world.
