Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sunset Memorial Oaks Funeral Home - Del Rio on Oct. 15, 2025.
The world lost a little of its melody on October 14th, 2025 when Jazmin Luna put down her guitar for the last time. Jazmin passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends at the age of 57. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. With her love to sing, Jazmin could turn any quiet moment into singing and laughter. She was the proud mamma to four boys whom she loved more than all the songs in her repertoire. They were her pride, joy and the reason she laughed so much. Jazmin only had boys but she loved her daughter in laws as if they were her own. She was also a devoted grandmother to 10 grandchildren whom she adored. On any given day you could call her on the phone and find her somewhere on the highway driving between Del Rio, Austin, Houston or El Paso to go see one of her boys.
Jazmin devoted her life to God and raising her boys to serve him. A fond memory her sisters have of her is when she was a little girl, while living in Mexico, they heard music coming for the little church down the road. The girls ran into the church all covered in dirt and loudly sang with the people. Jazmin was drawn to the Lord at the age of 3 and would sing loud with her whole heart. She lived her life with bold faith. She was a prayer warrior and believed in God's goodness and grace with all her heart. Her favorite bible verse was Psalm 91: 1 " Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High shall abide under the shade of the Almighty."
Jazmin was born in Mexico and came to the states in 1977. She was a migrant worker and worked in the cotton fields with her family. They would walk down the rows of cotton with the hoes in their hands singing praise to God. They worked the fields together with their mom and dad up ahead; and occasionally a shout "Rabbits!" would interrupt the singing and they would all run to catch them. They caught so many rabbits one day that her father came and said that they needed to stop catching rabbits or the owner of the field would come and get mad.
Jazmin was short in height but managed to keep four boys that towered her in line. Any of her boys would say that if they were being rowdy she would take off her shoe and hit them over the head with it. Jazmin was known for her tasty tamales. Making them was her hobby. When she sold a tamale it always came with a blessing and a word from God. Jazmin had a love for the Casino, any opportunity she had she would invite people to come along, even on her cross country road trip to Vermont for Jose's wedding she stopped at the Casinos in New York to play the slots.
If you knew Jazmin you already know that her favorite color was purple. When she and her sisters got together they were loud and rowdy. As children they would all pile into a bed and again, be very loud. A common phrase you would hear Jazmin say is "God has got this, He will see you through," and her favorite prayer, "Thank you Lord Jesus Amen." Jazmin was a dog person. She loved her dogs Beebees and Rocco.
She is preceded by her late father Juan Hernandez July 15th 2004, and her brother Jaime Hernandez 1986. She is survived by her mother, Obdulia Lopez Hernendaz, brothers and sisters, Edith Galindo, Eloy Hernandez, Ismael Hernandez, Yvette Hernandez, Savannah Gandara, Azeneth Rocha, Abigail Hort, Yadira Hernandez, Juan Hernandez Jr. Jazmin's son's, Juan, Jaime, Jose married to his wife Aimee, and Jacob married to his wife Luz. Her sons invite family and friends to celebrate her life the way she lived it, with love, laughter and maybe a sing along or two. At 5:20 PM on October 14th, 2025 heaven got a little louder and a lot more fun as Jazmin left this earthly body and entered eternal life with Jesus her saviour. Jazmin is writing songs up there and watching over us down here. Her family will miss her dearly and look forward to being reunited in heaven once again.
