JC Adkison

JC Adkison, 86, of Darlington, Florida, passed away peacefully in his home on January 12, 2025, surrounded by the family he cherished dearly. JC was born on November 12, 1938, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, to Talmadge & Tinnie Adkison. JC married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Jordan, in March of 1957. Together, they raised six children & settled in Darlington, Florida, where they built a life filled with love and family. His career and accomplishments included working in the citrus groves, pulpwood industry, mechanic & automotive industry, & towing and recovery. JC retired from Southern States as a fertilizer spreader, in Geneva, Alabama, after a long & dedicated career, also earning an unrestricted CDL with every endorsement. 

JC was a man of many hobbies, which included hunting, gardening, woodworking, winemaking, cooking, watching westerns, listening to country music, “piddling”, and collecting treasures for his empire; but, most of all, he loved to fish. He took every opportunity to fish and was able to do so right up until his death. Although JC was 86, he was sharp as a tack. He had the remarkable ability to remember specific and precise details of every stage of his life. This gift allowed him to be a magnificent storyteller. He shared his stories with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and anyone who would listen. Through his storytelling, he not only shared his legacy but also taught invaluable lessons and told countless jokes. 

JC is survived by his six children: Darlene Ellison(Roy), Sharon Webster, Jackie Wilczewski, Brenda “Bill” Webster(Clay), Jack Adkison(Sandra), and George Adkison(Heather). He also is survived by two sisters Myrtle Cook & Bernice Mitchem, sister-in-law Bonnie Sue Winborn, and brother-in-law James Jordan.

He also leaves behind nine grandchildren: BJ Pridgeon, Cory Webster (Monica), Crystal Pastor(Erik), Jennifer Wilczewski(Rachel), Joshua Webster(Jeana), Holly Carey(Craig), Christopher Wilczewski, Gracey Adkison, & Grady Adkison.

JC was also blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren: Nathan(Hannah), Julius, Braeden, Jesse, Morgan, River, Ally, Jaelyn, Ezra, Evalynn, Liam, Maddie, & Jaxen. He is also survived by one great-great-grandchild, Caleb. 

He also leaves behind many very special nieces, nephews and friends, and his precious dog and companion, LuLu, who brought him much joy and comfort in his later years.

JC was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Shirley Adkison; his parents, Talmadge Adkison & Tinnie Brannon, & Essie Bell Adkison. He was also predeceased by his in-laws, Jesse & Vera Jordan; his brother in spirit, Terry Adkison; his sister, Mavis Mickle; brother-in-laws, Charlie Mitchem, Cleo Cook, & Ricky Winborn; sister-in-law, Carol Jordan; & son-in-laws, Ray Webster and Teddy Wilczewski.

 A service to honor JC’s life will be held at McDonald Family Funeral Home in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, on January 15, 2025. Visitation will be held at 12:00 pm, and the service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at Limestone Cemetery in Darlington, Florida.
