Jean Bates Obituary
Jean enjoyed being with family and friends and her beloved pets. Her hobbies included collecting glass and porcelain shoes, of which she had acquired over 2,000. In her later years she enjoyed traveling with friends.
Jean is survived by her daughter Melinda VanPatten (Robert), grandchildren Zachary VanPatten (Bonnie), Cody VanPatten (Jessica), and Crystal Bentley (Bruce), great grandchildren Allie, Jack, Abigail, Elizabeth and Claira.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald R. Bates and brother Victor Stark.
A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 1 PM to 2 PM at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. A service will take place at the funeral home at 2 PM. Jean will be laid to rest later this spring in Fairview Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jean's memory to Nathan Littauer Nursing Home or an Animal Shelter of one's choice. Jean's family would like to thank the staff at Nathan Littauer Nursing Home for the excellent care she received these last few years.
