Jean "Alibrandi" Cerio

Jean (Alibrandi) Cerio, 97, of Syracuse passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025. Jean worked at NY Telephone Company before dedicating many years to the Syracuse City School District as a reading specialist. She touched the lives of countless children, helping them learn to read at Our Lady of Pompei School, Dr. King Elementary School and Ed Smith School. A lifelong communicant of Our Lady of Pompei Church, she graduated from North High School. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank R. Cerio, her parents, James Vincent and Josephine (Paratore) Alibrandi and by her grandson, Daniel Cerio Jr. Jean's greatest joy was her family. She devoted her life to their care. Known for her famous "Macaroni Sundays," she hosted her large and loving family well into her 90s. With her kitchen as the heart of her home, she created a tradition of food, laughter, and togetherness with a door open to everyone. Her holiday gatherings and Sunday dinners will be cherished memories for generations to come. She is survived by her brother Dr. Benedict (Gloria) Alibrandi and her sisters Rosie (late Joseph) Bonsignore, Mary (late Tot's) Cifra, Virginia (late Joseph) Cloonan and Josephine (late David) Vanover; her five sons, Frank (Sue) Cerio, David (Linda) Cerio, Vincent (late Dona) Cerio, Dr. Daniel (Therese) Cerio and Thomas (Julie) Cerio. Jean will be forever cherished by her 15 grandchildren Patricia Cerio, Debbie (Jacob) Silverstein, Frank John Jr. (Amber) Cerio, Jeffrey (Maryann) Cerio, Melissa (Matt) Luke, Alicia (Tim) Talarico, Christopher Cerio, Scott (Lauren) Cerio, Andrew (Britanee) Cerio, Stephanie (Eric) Mueller, Nicholas (Keri) Cerio, Thomas Jr. (Adrienne) Cerio, Christina Cerio (Jack Overdyk), Jonathan Cerio and Joseph Cerio; as well as 20 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on through all who knew and loved her. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 A.M. on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Our Lady of Pompei/St. Peter Church, 301 Ash St. Syracuse, with entombment to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery Mausoleum, DeWitt. In lieu of flowers, please spend those funds doing something special with your family. That would truly honor Jean's memory.
