Jean Dunn Obituary
Ms. Dunn was a dedicated advocate for equitable access to quality education, striving to nurture the potential of every individual. For over 20 years, she was part of the Title 1 Reading Program, focusing on students in high-poverty areas. As a reading specialist, she developed a dyslexia program implemented in public schools and championed for at-risk students with diverse learning challenges.
Her commitment extended beyond her career in elementary education as she engaged actively with community advocacy groups, managed a Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and contributed to service projects through her church. Upon retirement, Ms. Dunn sustained her dedication to education by teaching GED classes to incarcerated individuals, offering remedial reading instruction at community colleges, and mentoring future educators at the university level.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gaynol Owen and Dorothy Ruth Looper; and one daughter, Tara Evelyn Dunn.
Ms. Dunn is survived by her daughter, Sara Elizabeth Dunn Bojie of Bentonville, Arkansas; two siblings, Johnny Owen Looper and Marilyn Gay Lindsey, both of Monterey, Tennessee; and seven grandchildren, Morgan Elizabeth Bojie, Jared Patrick Bojie, Elena Taryn Bojie, Camden Gabriel Bojie, Matthias Montgomery Bojie, Adelaide Winter Bojie, and Carys Willow Bojie.
In lieu of flowers: In recognition of Ms. Dunn's unwavering devotion to enhancing the lives of students, donations to alleviate school lunch debts may be made as an alternative to sending flowers. Contributions can be directed through St. Theodore's Episcopal Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas. To donate in memory of Ms. Dunn, please specify your gift as "Lunch Debt-Pam".
