Jean Carpenter Butler Ebeling, age 90 of New Philadelphia, formerly of Quaker City, passed away peacefully July 26, 2025, at Walnut Hills Retirement Home. She was the daughter of the late Oather and Catherine Carpenter of Quaker City.
She was born February 21, 1935, in Quaker City and graduated in 1952 from Quaker City High School. She married Leon Butler on December 26, 1955, and the couple had two daughters; Teresa (Steve) Smith of Parkersburg, WV, and Sherri Butler of New Philadelphia. Leon passed away on December 20, 1970. Jean later married William Ebeling on December 8, 1988. Bill passed away on June 1, 2010.
After Leon's death, Jean worked at the Quaker City Post Office, Western Reserve Telephone Company, and retired from Red Carpet Health Care Center in Cambridge. She had a life-long love of horses, enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, playing card games, and flower gardening. She is survived by her daughters, brother Donnie Carpenter of Quaker City, grandchildren Raymond (Stacy) Burt, Tessa Burt, Nicole (Drew) Jones, and Sean (Brittany) Smith; great-grandchildren Tyler Burt, Ashten, and Salem Smith; niece Cathy Carpenter, nephews Scott and David Carpenter; her extended Butler family; step-children Michael Ebeling and Lori (Tom) Fogle, several step-grandchildren, and her cat, Lucy.

Visitation will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, 2025 at Thorn Black Funeral Home in Quaker City, Ohio. Funeral will be at 1 pm with graveside services at Friends Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Bella Run Equine (501c3) (bellarunequine.org), 4664 Pleasant Hill Rd., Athens, OH 45701.
