Jean Philippe Latreille, 87, of Palm City, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, at his home in Harbor Ridge. Phil was born in Montreal, Quebec on April 22,1938. Phil was an all-around athlete and took naturally to hockey and became a high school phenomenon in Montreal. This took Phil to Middlebury college in 1957, where from 1957-1961 he became a legend in US collegiate hockey, holding several NCAA records for goals scored that still stand today, scoring more goals than any other player in the history of U.S. intercollegiate ice hockey.

All told Phil tallied 250 goals-a total that includes further collegiate bests for goals in a game (10) and a season (80). A three-time All-American, he then went on to play with the New York Rangers. In 2014 he was inducted into the Vermont Hall of Fame. Phil started his business career at Armstrong Flooring, moving on to Canadian International Paper, Masonite Corporation, and Hunter Douglas Canada, before settling in Wisconsin with Morgan Door. He then managed Packaging Fulfilment Specialties before he retired. Upon retiring he would spend half his time in Wisconsin and half in Palm City Florida.

Phil was known for a generous nature and sense of humor. You knew when he entered a room because he would stop to talk with everyone. He was a self-proclaimed oenophile that loved to share stories about his wine collection, his latest wine finds and most importantly drink fine wines with friends and family. He loved golf and travelling the world and often found a way to combine the two. He was a gracious host, sharing his love for food and wine with the many people he visited, or with those who came to visit him. He will be greatly missed.

Phil was preceded in death by his wife, Eileen. He is survived by sisters Margaret Latreille and Ruby Latreille, Sisters-in-Law Maren Hexter and Nordis Glasoe, his children, Phil Latreille (Kelly), Stephen Latreille (Anne), and Douglas Latreille (Jayne), his seven grandchildren, Nicole (Nate), Gabrielle (Brandon), Juliana (Raymundo), Anna, Lola, JP and Mark, and his three great grandchildren, Harper, Oliver, and Marcelo.

A private celebration of life memorial will be held with family later this year. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Hope Rural School, 15929 SW 150th Street, Indiantown, FL 34956.

I am so sorry to learn of the death of Phil. He had such a good life with Eileen and his boys and their families and his hockey, golf and travelling. Bob and I had many great times together at Harbour Ridge. The last few years were difficult for Phil and he is now in a better place. Sincerely, Jennifer Tinker

Middlebury´s hockey team led by Phil and Mike Karin was the featured winter distraction in the long Vermont winter. So exciting to watch that rocket slapshot bulge the net in yet another goal. Didn´t matter if they won or lost he was the featured attraction!
My best to the family. Dave Hopkins´60
