Jean Ann Scroggins

Jean Ann Scroggins, 94, of Waltonville, Illinois, passed away at 4:25 pm November 13, 2025 at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon, Illinois. She was born May 30, 1931 in Waltonville to the late Nelson and Inez (Green) Isom. Jean married Harry Scroggins on January 18, 1952 in Waltonville. He preceded her in death on October 14, 2003.
Jean Ann graduated from SIU Carbondale with a BS degree in Education and taught 4th Grade at Waltonville Elementary School. Jean Ann loved being a teacher and retired after 33 years. She was of Protestant faith and was a member of Waltonville VFW Post 9153, Mt. Vernon Elks Lodge #819, as well as, served on the Board of Knob Prairie Cemetery and contributed to the Knob Prairie Historian. Jean Ann loved gardening, cooking, traveling, and visiting with family and friends.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Kimberly Maldonado and husband, Thomas of Tipp City, Ohio; son, Bradley Scroggins of Waltonville; grandchildren, Lindsay Maldonado and husband, Michael, Kristen Maldonado, Ashley Scroggins, and Patricia Toth; great-grandchildren, Adi, Shayla, Steven, Samantha, Lowell, Adrianna and Maiya; and many nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, Jean was preceded in death by her grandson, Ryan Maldonado; and siblings, Evelyn Tolley, Faye Rightnowar, and Ralph Isom.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at Newell Funeral Home in Waltonville. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 11:00 am at Newell Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Knob Prairie Cemetery in Waltonville.
