Jean Sharpe Obituary
Jean Sharpe, 89, of Winston Salem and Sunset Beach, passed away December 3, 2025, at SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.
Born May 23, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Eva Galyean and Fred Cockerham.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Franklin (Mickey) Roosevelt Sharpe; a daughter, Donna Jean Sharpe; two brothers; and two sisters.
Born in Surry County, Jean graduated from and played basketball at Low Gap High School. She and her husband moved to Hickory in 1954, joining Sharpe Motor Lines. She enjoyed flower gardening, bowling, traveling the world with her family, and visiting multiple casinos, often with Lady Luck on her side. Jean was a beautiful lady, elegant, generous, and a huge Elvis fan.
Special thanks to her daughter-in-law, Donna Sharpe, and Lower Cape Fear Hospice for faithfully caring for Jean.
Survivors include her sons, Franklin Bickett Sharpe of Hildebran, Larry Alan Sharpe (Donna) of Sunset Beach, NC, and Robert M. Sharpe of Sunset Beach, NC; nieces, Martha S. Hartmann, Kelly, and Jordan; nephew, Gavin; and a cousin, Jerry A. Sharpe (Nita).
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Bass-Smith Funeral Home. A receiving of family and friends will be held prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in Hickory.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Bolivia, NC.

We are very saddened to hear of the passing of Mrs. Sharpe, my brother Joe and I had a long career working for Sharpe Motor Lines in Hildebran working with many of the Sharpe family. Our thoughts and prayers will continue for the family.
