Jeanetta M. Bates

Jeanetta Marie Bates of Glenwood Indiana, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 73, on Monday, March 9, 2026. She was born June 6, 1952 in Paducah, Kentucky, the daughter of Walter Carnes Jr. and Velta Marie Coplen Turner.

Jeanetta was a Paducagh Tilghman High School Graduate. Jeanetta worked with various employers throughout her career. She was employed by Wal-Mart and most recently worked for the Fayette County School Corporation as a lunch aide. She loved helping children grow, and become the intelligent young adults that they are today. Jeanetta's most important job was being in the home, where she took care of her husband and children.

On April 1, 1972 in Paducah, Kentucky, Jeanetta married the love of her life, Jerry Isador Bates. They celebrated 52 years of marriage prior to his passing in December 2024. Together they built a beautiful life and were blessed with two children.

When Jeanetta wasn't working or taking care of her family, she enjoyed relaxing while indulging in God's word. She loved quilting and has numerus masterpieces to prove for it. Jeanetta was very social, she had a bright smile and made everyone feel seen. She adored attending worship with her church family at Laurel Pentecostal. Jeanetta treasured the time she spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She will be sorely missed.

Jeanetta is survived by her children; a daughter, Ingrid Bates and a son, Aaron Bates. She will be greatly missed by her siblings; a brother, John Carnes (Carolyn), and sisters, Sophie Lennex (Randal), Kathy May (Duane), and Susie Bills (Duane). Her memories will live on in her grandchildren; Justin Bates, Zachary Mroz, and Chase Baker.

Jeanetta is preceded in death by her parents; Walter and Velta, and her beloved husband Jerry.

Friends and family may visit Laurel Pentecostal Church located at 167 Charles Street Laurel, IN 47024 on Monday, March 16, 2026 from 11:00AM to 1:00PM. Funeral services will begin at 1:00PM with Pastor Glen Goins officiating. Burial will follow at Orange North Cemetery.
