Jeanette Marie Auchard, 94, died peacefully Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Legacy Bucyrus, where she had resided for a number of years, under the care of Gentiva Hospice.
She was born February 12, 1929 in Douglas County, Kansas to the late Vitus and Fern (French) Hadl, the youngest of Hadl girls. Jeanette went to Liberty Memorial High School in Lawrence, where she fell in love with her classmate, V. Allen Auchard, and graduated in 1946. She and Allen both attended Friends University and they married on September 5, 1947. Jeanette kept all their early correspondence and the Auchards shared 65 years of marriage when Allen preceded her in death in 2013.
Jeanette was a helpmate and supporter of her husband as he was in the pastorate before graduating from medical school in 1959. After serving in Kansas, Kentucky, Ohio, and Texas, Dr. Auchard accepted the opportunity to practice medicine in Bucyrus, where he delivered numerous babies and enjoyed working with many fine families and sharing an office with his medical school classmate, Dr. G. Wesley Bowersock. In addition to keeping the home fires burning, Jeanette was a medical assistant for various medical facilities including her husband’s practice. After his retirement, Dr. and Mrs. Auchard remained active in Woodlawn Methodist Church and organized a free clinic for which they received a gubernatorial commendation for their efforts.
Jeanette will be remembered for her sweet disposition, love for the Lord, and her enthusiasm for her family. She enjoyed genealogy and contributed to a book on the Hadl family. Friends and family alike looked forward to catching up by way of her well-crafted Christmas letters. Jeanette was also an artist, sharing her paintings with many loved ones.
Jeanette is survived by son-in law, James Holliday; grandchildren, Joshua Holliday, Adam (Shanthel) Holliday, and Jordan Marie McCullough; great grandchildren, Kaliah, Nolan, and Seilah; along with extended family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by son, Stephen Auchard; daughter, Annette Marie Holliday; and sisters, Virginia Carter, Marjorie Kampschroeder Wilson, and Augusta Flory.
Friends are welcome to gather on Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at the Oakwood Cemetery Columbarium, where her funeral will begin at 11:00 am with Pastor Sean McLeod officiating.
