Jeanette Baasi Obituary
Jeanette Marie Baasi sadly lost her courageous battle with cancer on February 5, 2026, in Iron, Minn., with family by her side.
She was born February 18, 1951, in Chisholm to Arvid and Helen (Jensen) Johnson. She grew up in the Cherry area and graduated from Cherry High School with the class of 1969.
She was united in marriage on May 1, 1971, to Melvin Baasi in Cherry and became a farmer's wife raising their children on the family farm. After the kids were grown, she started a long career at the Cherry School as a cook and a para.
Although she loved gardening, reading, and fishing her greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandma, and great grandma.
She was preceded in death by her husband Melvin Baasi and her parents Arvid and Helen Johnson.
She is survived by her children Shane Baasi of Hibbing, Shawn (Angelia) Baasi of Iron, and Shannen (David) Toole of Iron. Her three sisters Eileen Neuttila of Mt. Iron, Irene Verville of Superior, and Betty (Verne) Schmaltz of Balkan. Her grandchildren Alana, Brittany, and Austin Baasi, Summer, Noah (Jolie) Toole, and her Great grandson Caelum. As well as numerous nieces and nephews and countless friends in the community.
A memorial service will be held at Faith United Lutheran Church in Iron, Minn., on Thursday, February 12, 2026, with visitation at 10 a.m. and a service at 11 a.m., with a reception to follow.
