Jeanette Hanson Obituary

Jeanette Margaret Hanson was born on April 1, 1936, the only daughter of George Oscar and Margaret (Loring) Weber in Ayrshire, Iowa. She passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Mill Pond in Ankeny, Iowa at the age of 89 years.

Jeanette graduated from Ayrshire High School in 1953. She attended nurse's training and was employed at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville. She was introduced to her co-worker's brother John Hanson, and the couple were wed a short time later on January 14, 1956, in Ayrshire. The couple made their home in Estherville where they started their family. She was a loving and devoted mother to her twelve children. Jeanette stayed busy raising her children. As her children were getting older, she welcomed daycare children into her home. She was a master of multiplying a recipe to make it feed her family. Her family especially enjoyed her monster cookies and potato salad. The household was filled with laughter and joy, most days, as Jeanette had a great sense of humor.

In 1985, Jeanette and John relocated to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa with John's work transfer. Jeanette's day could be made even better by a visit from any of her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed holding the babies. While living in the Sioux City area she was a member of a weekly craft club. She ultimately enjoyed spending her time near her family in Des Moines.

Jeanette was an active member of the Catholic faith. She also enjoyed volunteering with hospice.

Jeanette is survived by her children Dan (Julie) Hanson of Sioux Falls, SD, Tom (Penny) Hanson of Worthington, MN, Greg (Janet) Hanson of Bondurant, IA, Bill (Eunice) Hanson of Milo, IA, Paul (Linda) Hanson of New Freedom, PA, Jim (Angie) Hanson of Marion, IL, Andy (Maureen) Hanson of Sheridan, AR, Tony (Laura) Hanson of Johnston, IA, Margaret (Doug) Brunscheon of Waverly, IA, Joe (Stacey) Hanson of Altoona, IA, and Janet (Brian) Haren of Jackson, MN; 36 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers Richard (Lois) Weber, Robert (Sheryl) Weber, Wilmer (Linda) Weber; and brothers and sisters-in-law Janie (Bubs) Johnson, Caroline Geerdes, Clyde Hall, and Chris Blass.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents George and Margaret; her husband John Hanson; her son Timothy Hanson; grandson Jacob Hanson; brothers Cletus Weber and Gerald (Bernice) Weber; brothers and sisters-in-law Doris (Lee) Alig, Janice Hall, Coleen Blass, Betty (Jack) Platter, and Hermie Geerdes.
