For 80 years, Jeanette Rogers Marschall Bode made the world a more comical, playful, loving, warm and beautiful place for everyone who knew her. She had crystal blue eyes that sparkled with just enough mischief to keep life spicy. Her life brightly reflected her priorities of family, love, community and service. She was a committed daughter, niece, mother, step-mother, grandmother, cousin, wife and friend.
Known as Jeanette to family and friends, and GMom to her grandchildren, she was the daughter of Charles and Beoma Rogers. She was born November 5, 1944 in Fredericksburg, Texas. She graduated from Harper High School and lived most of her life in her hometown.
After high school, she enrolled at Southwest Texas State University. Jeanette enjoyed work and soon started her professional career working for the gas company in San Antonio. She married, which gave her a beloved step-daughter, Marcelle Robin. While living in San Antonio, her son, Justin Royce was born. Then they returned to Harper, and her daughter, Mignonne Renee was born. Jeanette lovingly raised her children and was always involved in their activities. She opened her own flower shop in Harper named Petal Scents. She was a talented florist, who served people by creating specialized flowers for funerals, graduations, weddings, homecoming, Mother's Day and so many special occasions. She always found a way to make each arrangement meaningful to the person they honored. She carried this trait throughout her life, making each person feel individual and very special. Jeanette eventually began working for Texas Hills Insurance and finally independently, helping families with life and health insurance needs.
Jeanette took great pride in her family's roots. Family reunions were important to her and she never missed an opportunity to see extended family. She maintained her membership in the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, honoring her long time Texas family heritage. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church, where she was the organist, and was also part of the Lutheran and Methodist Churches. Later in life, she found her true love, Donnie Bode. Their courtship was like a couple of teenagers and they were married in the Methodist Church. Jeanette gained more children and grandchildren that she adored. She and Donnie loved traveling west, listening to music, tending to exotics on their place and spending time with all the children and grandchildren. They had a brief but beautiful love until Donnie's passing.
Volunteerism was paramount for Jeanette and she encouraged others to volunteer their time and talents. She served on the Harper ISD school board, volunteered for her churches, Harper Fire Department, Harper Community Park, Harper Chamber of Commerce, Grief Share Circle, and Harper Cemetery to list a few. She worked as an election judge for Gillespie County for many years, just as her father had done and Marcie continues in her county. She knew the value of people working to make the place they live better and she embodied that.
She will also be remembered for her homemade pecan pralines, which she made and shared freely with friends and loved ones. She loved her neighbors and sharing meals with them or sitting on the back porch watching deer in the evenings.
Nothing was more important to Jeanette than being a Mom and a GMom, a name she earned with grandchildren. She was constantly supporting her kids, and later grandkids, at sporting events, stock shows, musicals, pageants and so much more. She never was too busy to sit and have a conversation, celebrate birthdays, or provide advice. She did all of this and still found time to play any game that she could get into, whether it was WaHoo, SkipBo, Uno, 42, Hand and Foot or any other game. She played with integrity and she never let someone else win, much to her young grandchildren's dismay. Rather she taught them to play up to the level of the best player at the table, learn to beat them and be a good sport. Jeanette played in many card and domino groups every day. She loved these groups and spent many hours playing together.
She taught her family to be giving with time, service and to be charitable. She started a tradition at Christmas of the kids bringing dollars and she would auction off Christmas gifts to the highest bidder. Then the grandkids would decide which organization they wanted to donate the money to. She also formed a legacy of service in the community when she recruited Justin to take her place on the Harper Cemetery Board, helping families with burial plots in times of their grief.
Wherever Jeanette was, one could always find quick-witted commentary, conversation, energy, laughter and fun, even in the very end when she could no longer speak, she found ways to communicate and make care staff laugh. Our family is grateful for the skilled hands with hearts of gold that saw her through the last few days.
Jeanette Bode died in Kerrville, with family by her side, on June 5, 2025 after complications from a stroke. She was a mighty force and a rare gift to all who had the good fortune to know her. She is well loved and will be greatly missed.
Jeanette is survived by her son, Justin Marschall and his wife, Stephanie of Harper, her daughter, Mignonne Frantzen, and her partner Shain Chapman of Lakeway, her step-daughter, Marcie and her husband, Rocky of The Woodlands, her step-son Paul Bode of Columbus, OH, her step-son Jeff Bode and his wife Cindy, of Dripping Springs, her step-son Thomas Bode and his wife Alanna, of Harper and those who call her "G-Mom, the world's best grandmother", Ethan Marschall, Blair Marschall, Dacia Frantzen, Demetra Frantzen, Davis Frantzen, Desiree Frantzen, Mason Rhodes, Ben Bode, Forrest Bode, Matt Bode, Lauren Bode, Hailey Bode, Ashtyn Bode, Hannah Bode, as well as numerous cousins and scores of friends.
