Jeanne Frances Cannon
Of Unadilla
Jeanne Frances Cannon, 74, died on July 28, 2025 with her devoted husband Robert beside her. She was born on June 18, 1951 in Bangor, Maine to Charlie and Madeline Tetreau. Jeanne lived with Robert in
Unadilla, NY, on the banks of the Susquehanna for the last eleven years of her life. She is survived by three children with her first husband, Richard Barrell: Sarah Barrell and Emily Worsnopp of Sidney, NY and Aaron Barrell of Edmonds, WA, and a daughter-in-law, Kristen Barrell, also of Edmonds; two stepchildren from her marriage to Robert: Marc Cannon and Robyn Greenwell; two stepchildren from her second marriage, Wesley Price and Rebecca Von Bergen; and cousins Jessica Titus Baker and Richard and Paul Young. She is predeceased by her son-in-law William Worsnopp, her stepdaughter Bethany Price, and her cousin Marie Titus, among many others she cared for deeply and missed.
Jeanne attended Bangor High School and The University of Maine, and lived a full and adventurous life between Maine, Massachusetts, Arizona and finally New York. Much of her working life was spent as a massage therapist, a newspaper editor and as an administrator in the home health care industry. Jeanne and Robert met in 2006 in Phoenix, and their first outings together included hikes among the red-rock buttes of Sedona. Among their great joys while living in New York was canoeing the Susquehanna with Sarah, Emily, and her beloved son-in-law, Will. Jeanne was a reader, deeply empathic, curious about the world and her place in it. A slip of silk was her bookmark. She believed in unseen things, and regularly turned to her Tarot for guidance in times of uncertainty, transition or struggle. Her sense of joy and mischief sustained those in her orbit. She knew how to take care of others, especially when the end of life was near.
Much of what her kin knew of how to care for others, she'd shown them. If she loved you, you knew it: her first and last gesture would be a smile or an embrace. She was a fierce friend who brooked no judgment and who gave hate no space. She had excellent taste. She was a deeply creative person, and the impulse to express herself remained strong throughout her life. One of the chief outlets for that creativity was Jeanne's great love of cooking: she leaves behind a deep archive of recipes as well as countless memories of preparing and eating food with family and friends. In all the kitchens of our lives, she will be with us.
A private ceremony to celebrate her life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be made at: www.wmaddenfh.com. Arrangements by the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home 123 Main Street Unadilla. A MADDEN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME.
