Tupelo-Jeanne Marie Johnson Pate entered the Church Triumphant on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2025 from North Miss. Medical Center. She was 74 years old. Born on January 22, 21951 in Yokohoma, Japan on an Army Base while her father served in the Korean War, she was the daughter of the late Chauncey Joe Johnson and Mary Jane Duncan Johnson. She graduated from Tupelo High School in l968 and married the love of her life, Donald Pate on March 24, l968. Theirs was an adventurous journey of 57 years included living in Wyoming for many years where Jeanne attended Laramie County Community College graduating with a degree in Nursing. She worked at Catholic Hospital in Cheyenne as an LPN and later worked at Cheyenne Memorial as an RN. After their return to their native Tupelo from Wyoming in l988, Jeanne spent the remainder of her nursing career at North Miss. Medical Center. Jeanne had a sweet, very disciplined disposition and a sterling, reserved personality. She was regular in her daily exercise regimen, working out at 5:30 every morning at home before she and Don would make their way to the NMMC Wellness Center for a strict exercise ritual 5 days per week. They made many friends there in addition to taking care of their health. A master housekeeper, she loved cleaning and keeping her house spotless, cooking precisely to exactly how the recipes required making sure her families meals were promoting good, preventive health. An avid reader, she enjoyed taking care of animals as well. She and Don were active, faithful communicants of All Saints Episcopal Church in Tupelo.
A Burial Service will be held at Noon on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025 at All Saints Episcopal Church with Rev. Fr. Phillip Parker officiating. Burial will follow in Lee Memorial Park. Visitation will begin at 10:30 in the Church Parish Hall and continue until service time.
Jeanne is survived by her husband, Don Pate of Tupelo; her daughters, Mary L Pate Hood and her children, Melinda N. Hood, Camryn L. Perkins and Jessica K. Hood and Leslie A Pate Cox and her children, Abby C. Smalley (Michael), Shelby Lynn Cox, Cody D. Cox and William T. Cox; a great grandson, Baylor A Smalley; her siblings, Chauncey J. Johnson, Jr., Linda Douglas and Mary F. Hester. She was preceded in death by her parents, Chauncey and Mary Jane Johnson; her son, Michael Pate who died May 17, 2025, 2 months and 14 days ago.
Memorials may be made to honor and care for all animal; ASPCA, P. O. Box 96929, Washington, DC. 20090. Condolences may be posted on Jeanne's memorial page at hollandfuneraldirectors.com.
