A celebration of life for JEANNETTE ELAINE SCHREINER, 86, will be held 11am Friday February 28, 2025, at the First Congregational Church with Reverend Matt Gordon officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday February 27, 2025, from 3pm to 5pm and the casket will be open one hour prior to the services. Cremation will take following the services. Jeannette passed away February 18, 2025, at her home. Memorials can be made to the First Congregational Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Colyer Funeral Home and condolences may be sent to www.colyerfuneralhome.com
Jeannette was born to Alex and Lydia (Rupp) Herdt on January 21, 1939, which was her parents 5th wedding anniversary. Jeannette lived on the farm and her sister Joyce learned the fine art of thinning beets at an early age. The two were self-taught piano players. She also loved playing the accordion. She attended school in Huntley and Torrington, graduating in 1957. On October 7, 1956, she married LeRoy Schreiner at the First Congregational Church in Torrington and together they shared 68 years of love. To this marriage three children were born; Debra, Judith and Ed. Jeannette was a stay-at-home mom until she went to work at Wyoming Lanes and J.C. Penny's. From there she worked 25 years at Torrington Medical Group before her early retirement. Jeannette was a lifetime member of the First Congregational Church where she was baptized and confirmed. She taught Sunday school an sang in the church choir and was the church organist. She also served on the church board and was a friend to many. Jeannette and her husband LeRoy took up motorcycle riding and toured almost every state. They were past members of the Rollin Oldies Car Club and Wagon Wheels where they proudly drove their 1959 Ford. Other hobbies of hers included gardening, music, camping, but most of all spending time with her loving family and friends.
She is survived by her husband LeRoy Schreiner of Torrington; children, Debra Murray of New Bern, North Carolina, Judith Lovato of Fort-Collins, Colorado and Ed Schreiner of Torrington. Grandchildren; Joseph Lovato, Katie Lovato, Mark Schreiner, Mike Schreiner and sister Joyce Orr. As well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents Alex and Lydia Herdt, infant sister Saundra Herdt and grandson Matt Schreiner.
