Jeff Marshall Obituary

Jeff Allen Marshall, 73, passed peacefully from this life surrounded by his loving family on October 6, 2025, at his home in Columbus, Indiana. Born on July 5, 1952, in Indianapolis, Indiana, he was the son of parents James E. (Kay) Marshall and Peggy (Ralph) Horneffer.

A proud alumnus of Ball State University, Jeff earned his degree in Business, Architecture, Planning, and Zoning. His professional legacy lives on throughout Columbus, Indiana, where his vision and leadership shaped the community's landscape.

As the owner of Design & Planning since April 1989, Jeff's work as an esteemed architect can be seen in numerous local landmarks, including the Bartholomew County Humane Society, The Republic, several Big Foot/Circle K locations, ZwanzigZ and Turning Point- where he was honored with the Mission Partner of the Year Award in 2023.

Jeff's life philosophy centered on people. He was known for his kindness, authenticity and ability to connect with anyone- because to Jeff, a stranger was simply a friend he hadn't met yet. His compassion and generosity extended to all corners of his community, family and friends. Jeff found his greatest joy as a father and grandfather. He shared countless adventures, lessons and laughter with his beloved grandchildren, who brought endless pride and happiness to his life.

Among Jeff's passions was his love for his Harley-Davidson Touring. Whether riding through the open roads of Indiana or embarking on cross-country trips with close friends, he embraced the freedom of the ride with the same joy and curiosity he carried through life- always more focused on the journey than the destination.

Jeff's warmth, generosity, and unwavering spirit left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Jeff is survived by his children, Nathan (Jessica) Marshall, Jessica (Jesus) Palomino, Courtney (Caleb) Waggoner, Kacey (Justin) DeBord, all of Columbus; and Conner (Krista) Marshall of Greenwood; He is also survived by his grandchildren- Gage, Edwin, Lily, Clayton, Lydia, Sidney, Jackson, Sihrena, Kenneth, Grayson, Emery, Thiago, Lilah, Cooper, Benjamin, and Karsyn- and one great-grandchild; additional survivors include his siblings, Kevin (Lauren) Marshall, David (Rafael) Marshall, and Jennifer Marshall; step-siblings, Kent (Gretchen) Horneffer, Mark (Kathy) Horneffer, Debbie (Paul) Elsey, Leanne (Jim) Yeary, and Keith (Valerie) Horneffer; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter, Jessalyn Marshall.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Pastor Luke Maggard officiating. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

Jeff will be laid to rest at Garland Book Cemetery.
