Jefferay T. James, 73, of
Springfield, MA, a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Mercy Medical Center.
Jefferay was born and raised in Springfield. He was a graduate of Springfield Trade High School and later received his degree from Springfield Technical Community College. He embraced a life of joy and cherished his family bountifully.
Born with an adventurous spirit, Jefferay fondly relished his childhood memories and shared them with those around him. He was a passionate and voracious reader and was widely known for his impressive wealth of knowledge, which he generously imparted to others.
Music was a significant part of Jefferay's life. As a young adult, he enjoyed singing in The Determinations, a local group he co-founded with fellow frontmen Al Bass and Watkin White, where their love for melodies flourished. His favorite color was blue, a reflection of his zealous personality, brightening the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. He was tremendously artistic in nature, which came across via his exceptional penmanship, sketches and appreciation for various creative mediums.
Predeceased by his mother, Mary L. (James) Nunnally, Papa Joe (Joseph J. Nunnally), and Grand Aunt Mary Grant. Jefferay leaves behind a loving family. He is survived by his sisters Dolores James (
Newark, DE), Marlene (Tony) Taylor of Springfield and Lorraine (Rodney) Gates of
Las Vegas, NV; his brothers, Clarence "Cee" Nunnally and Larry Nunnally, all of Springfield; and his beloved Aunt Martha Bryant of Springfield. He also leaves his treasured nieces- Dina, Cherrelle, Jasmine and Savannah- along with his nephews Najee and Amani, whom he loved dearly.
Extended family: Siford Nunnally (Uncle Snooky) and family; Charles Martin and family; Mr. Wes (Michelle) and family; Kitty Brightwell and childhood friend Richard James and family; along with many cousins and peers, to mourn his loss.
Jefferay's life was a testament to the belief that when we let go of what no longer serves us, joy awaits us. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved him.
All burial and memorial services will be private. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Bryon Keenan Funeral Home and Cremation Tribute Center.
