Jeffery Scott Barrett, age 62, of Surgoinsville, TN went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Jeff was born on January 5, 1962, in Kingsport to Billy and Davis Ann Barrett. Jeff unselfishly served his community with complete dedication and devotion as he served 38 years as a firefighter. For the last 18 years, Jeff served as Fire Chief at Holston Army Ammunition Plant. On May 20, 1988, Jeff married his most cherished friend and love of his life, Rebecca Shelton, and after 36 years of a beautiful marriage and raising a family, she survives.
Jeff loved his family. He enjoyed fishing, watching marching bands, and going to the beach. His fellow firefighters considered him more than their chief; he was their friend. He was a true leader and an example for all firefighters to follow. Jeff also enjoyed being involved in Civil War re-enactments.
Jeff was preceded in death by his father, Billy Barrett; and his maternal and paternal grandparents. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rebecca Barrett; his mother, Davis Ann Barrett; two daughters, Stephanie Crowe and husband Lucas, and Josephine Barrett and husband Matthew Jones; many other loving family members; and his fire department family at Holston Army Ammunition Plant.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Carter Trent Funeral Home Church Hill. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 pm with Rev. Greg Fletcher officiating. A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at 11:00 am at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens in Rogersville with Kingsport FD Chaplain Barry Carr officiating. The Firefighters at Holston Army Ammunition Plant will be serving as pallbearers. In memory, Firefighter Lynn Ward is honorary pallbearer. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet promptly at 10:00 am Thursday morning at Carter Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill to go in procession to the cemetery.
Carter Trent Funeral Home Church Hill is serving the Barrett family.
