Jeffery Hopper Obituary

Published by Legacy on Sep. 18, 2025.
Jeffrey Carson Hopper was born on April 10, 1961 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the only child of William (Bill) and Sally Hopper. His early years were spent in Memphis and he had wonderful stories of his childhood, helping his parents in their Sears catalog order store. He had wonderful tales of some of the free floor models that he would get to assemble and play with. Jeffrey headed to Little Rock AR for college and met many of his lifelong friends.

After studying art, Jeffrey moved to Denver Colorado in the mid-1980s. He quickly met many friends and continued his career in art sales, and also began his most fulfilling career in property
management. Jeffrey proudly managed three downtown buildings and prided himself on helping all of his tenants retain their housing. He often went over and above for someone to ensure that
they could stay and be healthy in their apartment.

Jeffrey was a cycling enthusiast and one of the strongest cyclists most of his friends had ever met. He enjoyed mountain biking and road biking and completed many century rides during his lifetime. Jeffrey was extremely active in the Outspoken gay cycling club in Denver and that's where he met many of his best friends. Jeffrey was also a devoted LA Dodger fan and rarely missed a game.

Jeffrey contracted HIV in the late 1980s. He did not let this get him down though and he worked hard to maintain his health and receive treatments that were available to him. Although he often
fell ill, he remained positive and focused on making his own life better and also making the lives of those around him better. He was a founding member of Project Angle Heart, a Denver
feeding program, focused on making sure that HIV positive individuals had nutritious meals in their homes.

Jeffrey lived with HIV for nearly 40 years. One friend recently recounted that when she met him in 1994, he had 35 T cells. Jeffrey fought hard for his health and lived through many scares, only to come back stronger and ride his bike farther the next week.

Jeffrey died on September 3, 2025 at Anschutz Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado after a prolonged episode of pneumonia. His beloved friend and caretaker Linda was by his side, holding his hand as he took his last breath. He was at peace. As was Jeffrey's wish, no services will be held. His fondest wish was that we all remember him with laughter and joy and live our lives with the gusto that he modeled for us.

If you would like to remember Jeffrey, his request was that you make a contribution to Project Angel Heart.
