I became friends with Jeff while stationed in Okinawa. I believe Jeff arrived a little after I did in 84 and he was there until sometime during 86. We were friends with two Okinawans that owned a bar and Jeff and I would be there until closing which was about 5-6 in the morning and we then helped the guys clean up and then played poker until sometime in the afternoon. That is just one of my memories of Jeff.
When he left the Rock he told me that if I ever ended up in North Carolina to look him up...I am so sorry I did not. I had no idea where he resided and just got on the internet in 2010.
I was thinking and praying about Jeff last night and decided to do a google search and came across his obituary from 2011. I am so sorry for the families loss...Jeff was an awesome guy and a great friend and I am so sad that he departed this life so early.
I read that he had accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior...that blesses my soul because I gave my life to Jesus in 1990 while serving in the Gulf during Operation Desert Shield. I'll never forget Thailand (Pattaya), Japan (Tokyo, Cleo's, Hard Rock, the subways and train rides, Fuji), Korea (Seoul, Uncheon, Johnny's Bar), The Philippines, and of course our stomping grounds on the Rock, the A Sign bar, New York New York, Apple House, Manhattans, Champs, 8 Beat, Cleo's, Sunabe sea wall the beach and all the people we befriended, our promotions to meritorious corporals (my second meritorious promotion to that rank and your first).
Semper Fi my Marine Brother, there is a reason God had put you in my heart even though you have been in His presence for almost 7 years. The journey is just beginning for your eternity. God bless to Jeff's family, such a tragic loss of such a great man.

Mark, I was so saddened to come across this. My heart hurts for you although it has been five years now I know it must be unbearable. From years past all my love.
