Jeffery Dwight Shuping

Jeffery Dwight Shuping, beloved son of Dwight and Martha Alexander Shuping, was born on January 9, 1969, in Salisbury, NC. He was the cherished grandson of Mary and Harvey Alexander and Henry and Velna Shuping. His passing on October 30, 2025, at the Glenn Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury was unexpected.

Jeff had a happy childhood filled with baseball games and summers at Franklin Pool. He worked hard, became an Eagle Scout, played in the North Rowan High band, and graduated with honors from North Rowan High School in 1987. He formed lifelong friendships during this time that remained a constant in his life.

A member of Calvary Baptist Church, Jeff was baptized at age eight. Following in the footsteps of his Uncle Charles Henry and grandfather Henry Locke Shuping, he joined the Andrew Jackson Masonic Lodge #576 after college and was a Past Master of the lodge.

After graduating from North Carolina State University in Raleigh with a degree in U.S. History. He taught at Knox Middle, Corriher Lipe and North Rowan High, and North Rowan Middle and retired after 30 years of service. He also coached various sports teams and built strong bonds with his students, players, and their families. Jeff loved taking students on class trips to Washington, D.C., sharing his wealth of knowledge. His humor, kindness, and lively spirit made him unforgettable. Above all, he was a devoted father to his only son, Zachary (Zach) Shuping, and was a genuinely good-hearted person, much like his father, Dwight.

Jeff was deeply loved by everyone who knew him. He also worked as an Assistant Manager at the City Tavern in Salisbury, where his warm personality and charm left a lasting impression. No one has ever had so many people care about him and he love them in return. George Shuping was his first cousin, but everyone said they were really "brothers from different mothers" and remained as close as could be until his last breath.

At home, Jeff loved spending time in his vegetable garden, especially tending to his corn and tomatoes. He devoted hours to caring for it, and even now, this summer's garden still boasts red, ripe tomatoes hanging on the vines.

As broken hearted as we are to lose Jeff, Jeff told his mama, Martha at the hospital that "It would be alright." We know he is in heaven with those that loved him.

Jeff's family would like to thank all the wonderful friends of Jeff's that have been by his side constantly praying and visiting these last few weeks. There are no words to say to express the gratitude we have. A special thank you to Crystal, the Nurse in Charge at Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center and thank you to all those at the Glenn Kiser Hospice House for all the care they gave to Jeff. Thank you to his group of special friends that he had so many fun times with.

Jeff leaves behind his mother Martha Alexander Shuping of Salisbury, his son Zachary A. Shuping of his home. His stepfather Darrell Loflin, stepbrother Gregory Loflin and wife Hemmie of Okinawa, Japan, and stepbrother Phillip Loflin and wife Kendra of Salisbury.

A Celebration of Life for Jeff will be held at 12:30 pm at Calvary Baptist Church on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church located at 2255 East Ridge Rd., Salisbury with visitation before the service from 11 to 12:30 pm.
