Death Notice

Jeffrey Lynn Burwell

1955 - 2022

Jeffrey Lynn Burwell, 66, formerly of Pleasantville, New Jersey, affectionately known as "Jeff B", entered into heavenly rest on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
Jeff was born on November 6, 1955, four minutes ahead of his twin brother, Jerome, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Earsell and Helen Burwell. He attended the Newark Public School System graduating from Barringer High School. In 1973, Jeff enlisted in the United States Air Force to proudly serve his country until he was honorably discharged. He also attended Rutgers University receiving a B.S. Degree in Computer Science. In 1977, Jeff began his career at the United States Post Office in Bulk Mail, where he would later retire from in 2015. Jeff was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Orange, New Jersey.
As in any great storyline of life, there are ups and downs, trials and tribulations, emotional roller coasters and obstacles to overcome and Jeff had his fair share of them all. On June 25, 1988, Jeff joined Narcotics Anonymous and began his lifelong journey in recovery. He proudly celebrated 34 years clean and sober this past June. However, in the beginning of 2021, life threw Jeff a curve ball he could not dodge. One would think that after being diagnosed with Stage 4 Liver Cancer that Jeff would become overwhelmed, saddened or defeated even. But NOPE, true to who he is, Jeff gave that cancer the fight of his life.
For all whom have had the honor of experiencing his presence, it is no secret that Jeff's personality was larger than life.
So how do we describe this man who meant so much to so many? Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, God-Father, Sponsor and Friend. Intelligent, insightful, quick-witted, master of analogy. Resilient, dedicated, charismatic and comforting with an infectious smile that would light up any room. Let us not forget that baritone voice. Soothing, melodic, harmonious. In one word, Jeff is and will always be UNFORGETTABLE!
Jeff was predeceased by his father, Earsell; his mother, Helen; and his sister, Phyllis.
Remaining to cherish Jeff's loving memories are: his wife of 14 years, Deirdre; his daughters, Tameka, Marissa, and Carmella; his sons, Jarett, Justin, Stephon, Tariq, Brandon and Jordan; his grandchildren, Khalil, Khyree, Khyan, Khaden and Omari; his great-grandchildren, Khasir and Khylee; and his God-daughters, Amirah, Alliyah and Allisha. He also leaves his sisters, Hazel and Geraldine, and his twin brother, Jerome Sr. Additionally, he leaves two nieces, Theresa and Quavella; four nephews, Maurice, DeShawn, Yakkub and Jerome Jr.; along with a host of family, friends and NA fellowship too numerous to mention.
