Jeffrey Cook Obituary
Survivors include his children, Beth Antoine (Joseph), Jeff Cook, Jr., and John Cook (Peyton); sister, Margie Sturdivant; grandchildren, Isabella Antoine and Alexander Antoine; and extended family.
Jeff was a graduate of LaGrange High School, class of 1972. He was a multi-sport athlete, playing basketball, football, and baseball for the Grangers. Jeff graduated from Gupton-Jones Mortuary College in 1989, and enjoyed a 50 year career as a licensed mortician, working for funeral homes across the southeast: Harts Mortuary (Macon, GA), Reimann's Funeral Service (Gulfport, MS), LaGrange Funeral Home (LaGrange, GA), McCarthy Funeral Home (West Point, GA), and Bluffton Funeral Home (West Point, GA). He also provided freelance embalming to a number of other funeral homes. Jeff served as Troup County Coroner for twenty years.
Away from work, Jeff enjoyed golf, cooking, and rooting for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Jeff was a prolific reader and a snazzy dresser. He had lifelong friends who he considered family. They knew they could count on him to tell a good story. Outside of his immediate family, his closest relationships were with his childhood friend, Ken Denney, and his nephew, Randy Sturdivant.
The family will have a visitation on Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Higgins Funeral Home at Hunter Allen Myhand. There will be a private graveside service at Shadowlawn Cemetery.

Jeff was a man with a rich sense of humor who told a good story, usually followed by "true story". I frequently told Jeff how much he sounded like President Bill Clinton, which he completely hated but made him laugh! We shared a love for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets which made him a king among men. Rest in peace, good sir..

My heart goes out to Beth, Jeffrey, and John at the loss of their father. When my sister first dated Jeff, I was excited about the prospect of getting behind the wheel of his MGB once I became old enough to drive. But by the time I had my license, he had gotten rid of the MG and moved up to that beautiful T-Bird, the late-70's model with the 20' long hood. By that time Jeff and I had become quite close and I truly valued having him to talk to and confide in. He was truly like another big brother to me. He was always able to put me at ease if I came to him with a problem because he was never judgmental and he usually had his own similar life experience to share. I miss that. I'll miss him. He left a wonderful legacy through his kids though. With love, Steve
