Jeffrey "Lumpy" Lynn Riley, 51, of Paducah, Kentucky, traded this world for heaven on November 3, 2025. Born and raised in Paducah, Jeff lived a life full of laughter, loyalty, and love that reached far beyond himself.
He was a devoted husband to Tiffany Louise Looper and a proud, endlessly supportive father to his son, Nate Riley (15) - his pride, his joy, and the heartbeat of his world. Nothing lit Jeff up more than watching Nate play baseball; you could find him at nearly every game, coaching from the dugout or the stands with that big grin and louder-than-average encouragement.
Jeff's life revolved around the two things that most reflected his heart: Jesus and baseball. Often, the two collided. Coaching wasn't just a pastime; it was his ministry. He poured himself into countless players over the years - not just teaching them the game, but showing them what it meant to love big, laugh loud, and live faithfully. To be coached by Jeff was to be known, challenged, and loved like family.
Jeff spent many years traveling the country playing the game he loved with the Louisville Slugger slow-pitch softball team, and if he wasn't playing, he was coaching.
He was known to everyone as "Lumpy," but to those closest to his heart, he was "Uncle Jeff" - the one who never came empty-handed, always showing up with the best gifts (often endless monster trucks and ice cream for his boys), the best jokes, and the biggest smile. His humor and sarcasm could fill a dugout or a duck blind, and he had the rare gift of making people feel seen - and then immediately roasted.
Jeff was happiest surrounded by his people - whether that was watching his son play baseball, fishing, hunting, or swapping stories in the duck blind with the crew. His Thunder Baseball family wasn't just a team; they were part of his life's heartbeat. And to those who played ball with him back in the day, few will forget that booming swing. He could send a softball a quarter mile with ease.
Professionally, Jeff took pride in his work at Commercial Door and Hardware, where his coworkers became more like brothers. He loved his church, his pastors, and his community deeply - always quick to lend a hand, crack a joke, or simply be there.
Jeff is survived by his wife Tiffany, son Nate, and his best buddy with four paws, Champ. He is also survived by his sisters Teresa Griffin (Larry), Penny Doom (Terry), Sheryl Wallis (Danny), and his brother Jerry Riley (Jennifer). He leaves behind two aunts, two uncles, and a large extended family who all adored him.
He was preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Judy Riley, his sister Tonya Riley, and grandparents Lawson and Ola Mae Riley and Robert and Louise Powell.
Jeff's legacy is one of love that went wide and deep - the kind that doesn't fade. His laughter will echo in dugouts, his stories will be told around campfires, and his faith will keep pointing others to Jesus, just like he did every day.
Jeff's memorial service will be held at Heartland Church on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Friends and family are invited to share stories, laughs, and memories of the man who never did anything halfway.
