Jeffery S. Taylor, 65, of Mt. Vernon, passed away peacefully at his home on September 18, 2025. Jeff was born on February 17, 1960, the son of the late Ervin Taylor and Anita (Davis) Steinmetz.

Jeff worked in security for many years. During his time at Deaconess Hospital, he met the love of his life, Melva (Cape) Taylor, who preceded him in death in 2023. Those who knew Jeff take comfort in knowing that the two are now joyfully reunited.

Jeff's life was centered around the things he loved most - first and foremost, his beloved wife, Melva. He was also a devoted outdoorsman who found peace in nature. He spent countless hours fishing for bass or in pursuit of the perfect trophy buck. Several of his deer were scored high with Boone and Crockett, moments of great pride for him. Beyond the outdoors, Jeff treasured time with his family and friends, who meant the world to him.

He is survived by his sisters, Sheryl (Philip) Mulvey and Jeannie Neaveill; brother, Mike Taylor; sister-in-law, Lora Taylor; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Melva; sister, Wanda Riley; brothers, Pete and Mark Taylor; and brothers-in-law, Charles Neaveill and Jerry Riley

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Denning Family Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with burial to follow in Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Riley Hospital for Children. Online condolences may be shared at denningfamilyfuneralhome.com.
