Jeffery Luthur Young was born on February 15, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late
Dorothy Young Calhoun and Samuel Young. Affectionately known as "Jeff" by his family and
friends, he was educated in the School District of Philadelphia and graduated from Roxborough
High School in 1965.

A year after graduation,Jeff answered the call to serve his country and joined the United States
Air Force in 1966. He proudly served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in
1970, after four years of dedicated service.

Upon returning home, Jeff pursued a career as a sheet metal worker. He became one of the first
African Americans to graduate from apprentice school and gain membership in the Sheet Metal
Workers Union Local 19-now known as the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation
Workers. Jeff's hard work and commitment to his craft spanned 25 years, culminating in his
retirement in March 2000.

Jeff was a man of many passions. A true jazz enthusiast, he amassed an impressive vinyl
collection over the years. He was also a proud and loyal fan of Philadelphia sports, always
cheering on the Phillies, Sixers, Flyers, and most especially his beloved Eagles. Sundays were
sacred, spent enjoying a hoagie, a cold beer, and Eagles football; it was a family tradition for
many years. Jeff was also deeply informed, never missing the news and always ready to engage
in conversations about both national and global events.
Known for his vibrant spirit and warm presence, Jeff was often the life of the party, bringing joy
and laughter to every gathering. Often telling inappropriate jokes to lighten the mood. He loved
having a good time and made sure those around him did too.

Jeff leaves behind his former wife, Valerie Young; his two sons, of whom he was extremely
proud LaVar Young and Ja Ron Young; grandson Nygee Young; great-grandson Aidan Young;
his devoted sister Lisa Calhoun; sister Tasha Myers; and brothers Joseph (deceased) and Anthony
Calhoun; beloved nephews William Calhoun, Lance, and Kordell Myers; along with a host of
cousins, extended family members, and cherished friends.
May Jeff rest peacefully in the arms of our Lord. He will be deeply missed and forever
remembered.

Lovingly submitted by the family.
