Jeff was CEO for Doe Run, a friend and was appointed General Manager for Placer Service Corp/Yuba Placer Gold Company in California. Jeff's Presidential appointment for Doe Run took him back to St Louis leaving Yuba Placer Gold. I was the Controller for Placer Service and Yuba. We met daily in the afternoon to go over what was happening on my side of things for the day. Following Jeff's leaving, I eventually went back to Missouri for personal reasons and again continued our work/friendship. He was so easy to talk to when you needed help and will be missed by everyone. Sending our prayers and best wishes to his family and friends.

I worked at Doe Run as Director of Business Development from 1996 to 1999. I spent a lot of time with Jeff in Lima Peru, after work hours in the bar, and loved hearing his stories while he drank his beer with a dash of salt. He was also a great mentor to me as a late 20s professional. He never took himself too seriously and garnered deep respect from everyone at Doe Run. RIP Jeff.

My first day at work in the corporate offices of Doe Run, this man walked past my desk, backed up and asked "are you new here?" I said "Yes." and he said "Welcome, I am Jeff Zelms." Whenever I saw him in the office, he would acknowledge your presence. He cared for the people he worked with. Someone had a heart attack in the office and the medics used a defibrillator on him. A couple of weeks later there were installed throughout the company and we were taking courses on how to use them.
