Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2026.
Northville - Jerald "Jerry" Michael Lelito, 76, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2026, in Charleston, South Carolina, after an 18-month battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD).

Jerry was born in Michigan and spent most of his life in the Detroit area before moving to Charleston to be with his daughter and son-in-law during his final months.

He is survived by his twin brother, Juan Lelito and sister, Sandy Lelito, daughter, Julie Winchester, and her husband, Brandon Winchester, and his grandchildren, Dorsey and Ben Winchester.

Jerry had a 30-year career with General Motors and American Axle before retiring, when he spent much of his time playing competitive tennis. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was a loyal fan of the Detroit Lions. He also enjoyed traveling the US and the world.

A celebration of life will be held in Michigan at a later date. Details will be posted on Legacy.com

Vic and I are sorry for your loss. Jerry is one of the most incredible individuals I have met through tennis. All of us friends played tennis and created our own tournaments. I miss those days. We will miss Jerry but he his spirit will be with us.
