COAL VALLEY, IL - Jerald J. Smith, 85, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, July 22, 2023, at home.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 28, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with Father Antonio Dittmer officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. The family will greet friends at a funeral luncheon immediately following services at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe. Private burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, at a later date. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
Jerald Joseph Smith was born March 20, 1938, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Archie and Mary (Cahill) Smith. He married the love of his life, Judy Johnson, on September 28, 1963, in Rock Island.
Jerry started out as a mechanic at an early age, owning All Service Garage. He continued his career working for Motion Industries and Purolator as well as driving a semi in between. Most recently, he owned and operated Jerry's Small Engine Repair, retiring last year.
He enjoyed feeding wildlife in his back yard. He truly loved his job and tinkering with engines and other mechanical things was also his hobby.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; his daughter, Katy Smith of Moline; his brother, Don Smith of Rock Island; and his loving dog, Mac. He was preceded in death by his son, David Smith; sisters, Joanna Smith and Naomi Smith; and a sister-in-law, Monica Smith.

I am really going to miss Jerry. I always missed seeing him when he would come into my store. I´ve know Jerry and Judy and the who family for over 40 years and they always treated me like Family.My thoughts and prayers are with Judy and Katy.

Jerry will be missed, I really liked him and appreciated him. I must add that in addition to his beloved wife, he always referred to Katy as "that's my girl," and I got she was the apple of his eye.
