Jerald J. Wiley, 89, of Calhoun, Missouri, passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday morning, August 3, 2025.
Jerald was born May 3, 1936, at St. Lukes Hospital in
Kansas City, Missouri. The son of Walter J. and Margery (Faith) Wiley, of Calhoun, Missouri. He attended Calhoun schools and graduated in 1955.
On May 31, 1958, Jerald was united in marriage to Joanne J. Morris at the Christian Church in
Clinton, Missouri. They were blessed with two children, Todd and Tara. Joanne preceded him in death on April 6, 2014.
Jerald was a lifelong farmer and finish carpenter. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Calhoun, Missouri. He enjoyed showing horses and cattle as well as hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Cattlemens Association, Clinton Elks Lodge, and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. He was always up for an adventure so becoming a private pilot was a goal that he achieved in 1976. Later in life, he enjoyed refurbishing vintage tractors and trucks. He also had a knack for cooking and grilling. Jerald claimed fame when a picture of his American Royal Grand Champion bull with him holding the reins, his son holding the plaque, and good friend, Chuck Joy, standing behind the bull, showed up in the hit film Top Gun, 1986.
What Jerald enjoyed the most were the many hours spent with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved taking the grandchildren hunting and fishing. Jerald also found pleasure in going to their activities whether it was sporting events or music programs. They always enjoyed his outgoing ways, whether it be racing Grandpa Wiley on his scooter and they on their bikes or just sharing silly stories. Preceding him in death were his parents, Walter J. and Margery (Faith) Wiley and his wife, Joanne J. (Morris) Wiley.
Jerald is survived by his son, Todd J. Wiley, Leawood, Kansas; his daughter, Tara J. (Wiley) Engelhart and her husband Mark Engelhart,
Clinton, Missouri; grandson, Aaron Engelhart and his wife Amber, Lees Summit, Missouri; grandson Tyler Engelhart and his wife Maegan, Altoona, Iowa; granddaughter, Jennifer Engelhart,
Kansas City, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Lanie, Kacie, Easton, Carly, and Kenzie.
The family has requested memorial contributions be made to either Good Shepherd Hospice or the Clinton Animal Shelter and left in care of Consalus Funeral Home, 209 S. 2nd,
Clinton, MO 64735.
