HALIFAX- Jere A. Haines, 76 passed away on August 1, 2025. He was the loving and wonderful husband to wife Sandra of 44 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by daughter Abby Ross and her husband Sean and two grandchildren, Noah and Chloe of Raleigh, NC; A brother, Owen Haines and many nieces and nephews and his loyal cat and best friend, Miss Kitty, He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth (Peiffer) and Abram Haines, and sister, Cleo Rodgers.
He graduated from Donegal High School, Mount Joy, PA then enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served 2 tours of duty as a "Combat Medic" in infantry company and served with the following units: 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, and the 1st Aviation Brigade. He also received the following awards: Combat Medical Badge (two); Bronze Stars (two), Army Commendation Medals with V-Service for Valor, Purple Heart, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Parachute Wings, Expert Rifle Badge, National Defense Service Medal, and the Soldier of the Month award (82nd Airborne Division).
Upon returning from Vietnam, he received a B.S. Degree in Behavioral Science from York College of Pennsylvania.
He was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman who loved nature, bird watching and took care of many wild and domestic animals over the years. He enjoyed traveling which included San Francisco, St. Martin, Jamaica, Maine and Florida. He also loved cooking, especially preparing a good old-fashioned Sunday dinner.
He was a loyal Penn State football, Hershey Bears Hockey and Phillies baseball fan attending many sports events with family and friends.
He had 40 years experience as a leader in the construction industry. In addition, he built his own house, his cabin in the mountains and helped many other friends and family build their dream home.
His favorite color was yellow and he enjoyed the springtime when the forsythia and daffodils bloomed.
There will be a burial with military honors held at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
He was the best of the best at everything he did and still is and always will be. He will be missed by all.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to your local SPCA, or Columbia Animal Shelter, 265 S. 10th St. Columbia, PA or to the DAV-Disabled American Veterans.
